Driving Innovation: GIC Explores New Pathways for Collaboration
This month, the Global Impact Coalition (GIC) held our Q1 ideation session with support from Boston Consulting Group, bringing together around 30 executives from Global Impact Coalition member companies—including BASF, SABIC, Clariant, Covestro, LG Chem, LyondellBasell, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Syensqo, and SUEZ—at BCG’s Frankfurt offices. After weeks of insight gathering, member interviews, and focused preparation, the session was a deep dive into brainstorming, ideation, and concept pitches. With 14 potential ideas emerging (see image below), the next step is to prioritize the most promising opportunities to develop into new working groups. If any ideas interest you, reach out to find out how your company can get involved.
This month GIC also held several in-person working group sprints and had a strong presence at several key industry events—theWorld Petrochemicals Conference (WPC) in Houston, the International Automotive Recycling Congress (IARC) in Antwerp, and the Economist Impact Sustainability Week in London—where GIC leaders contributed to discussions on the critical elements needed to advance plastic circularity and low-carbon chemicals.
Stay tuned for more project updates as we refine new working group ideas and continue driving cross-sector collaboration forward!
Growing upstream: GIC welcomes Moeve
March was also a milestone month for GIC as we welcomed a new member: Moeve, formerly known as Cepsa. As a global energy leader, Moeve is dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions across energy, chemicals, and mobility. This partnership reinforces the importance of cross-sector collaboration in developing sustainable and commercially viable solutions to reduce emissions across the chemical industry, accelerating the transition to a circular and low-carbon economy.
“I apply the 'forever test': Can this practice sustain indefinitely without harming the environment and life? Is there an effective loop to convert waste (material, energy, CO2, etc.) into new feedstock? Is it economically viable?"
What do you believe can be achieved through the GIC?
“After seeing several working groups moving from theory into practice, I am convinced GIC is uniquely placed to reconfigure entire value chains and make a significant impact, not just on the upstream processes in the chemical industry, but even more through downstream applications.”
Upcoming Webinar: Advancing Circularity Across the Automotive Plastics Value Chain
Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 10th, 17-18 CEST/ 11-12 EDT
Join the EY Circular Economy Network and the Global Impact Coalition for a dynamic discussion on driving plastics circularity in the automotive sector. This roundtable will bring together experts from leading chemical and automotive sector companies along with EY and GIC to explore the key challenges and opportunities in scaling End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) plastics recycling. From regulatory shifts to rethinking recycling, we’ll dive into what’s needed to unlock circular solutions across the value chain.
