Collective Progress: Connecting innovators with industry leaders for scale and impact
The Global Impact Coalition is growing its reach and impact. This month, we’re proud to announce the launch of our Innovation Ecosystem — a platform to bring together start-ups, innovators, universities, and research institutes to accelerate solutions for a circular, net-zero chemical industry.
Alongside this exciting step, our working groups are making strong progress:
Automotive Plastics Circularity: This month, the working group met for a sprint hosted by SABIC at Brightlands Chemelot Campus. We are finalizing initial sorting and recycling tests on different polymer samples and preparing a webinar to discuss the project with OEMs in mid-October.
PFAS Destruction: At a sprint hosted by SUEZ in Paris, members agreed to concentrate efforts on Destruction technologies to break-down short-chain PFAS from process water. We are looking to identify promising technologies for lab tests and pilot.
Sustainable Methanol: The team is building the business case for a waste-to-methanol supply chain, assessing different technology options. This method will convert mixed municipal solid waste into sustainable methanol, enabling the production of circular and low-emissions chemicals.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing for a packed fall season. You’ll find us hosting sessions and sharing insights at Sustainability LIVE London, NY Climate Week, and K Fair. We look forward to connecting in person — join us on the journey!
Webinar Today: Scaling Low Carbon Chemicals
Join GIC and CO2 AI for an engaging discussion with industry leaders from Clariant and the Scope 3 Peer Group. As pressure mounts to reduce emissions in industrial supply chains, low-carbon chemicals are becoming a strategic priority. Yet progress is slowed by scattered PCF data, limited alignment across buyers and suppliers, and a lack of shared demand signals. To move faster, companies are collaborating to reduce product-level emissions, align procurement goals, and explore new models such as collective offtake agreements. Join the discussion today!

Going to NY Climate Week? Join us to co-build the net-zero chemical value chain!
Join GIC and BCG for an executive breakfast dialogue: From Ambition to Action: Co-Building the Net-Zero Chemicals Value Chain. Together, we'll explore cross-sector strategies for accelerating emissions reductions and circularity across the chemicals value chain. This invite-only session will bring together senior leaders from global chemical, recycling, and consumer goods companies to exchange and align on tangible actions to translate pressing global sustainability issues into commercial opportunities.
Tuesday, 23 September, 8:00 - 9:30am; BCG Offices in NYC
CIO Times recently named Charlie Tan one of the top leaders redefining sustainability in the hard-to-abate industries. As CEO of the Global Impact Coalition, Charlie is leading a bold shift in the chemical sector—bringing competitors together to co-develop scalable solutions for circularity and emissions reduction. Guided by the belief that “motion isn’t progress,” Charlie emphasizes focused action over scattered effort, ensuring GIC delivers real outcomes, not just ambition. Read full article
Innovation News Network: Understanding PFAS
PFAS, often called 'forever chemicals,' pose a growing environmental and health challenge due to their extreme persistence and widespread use across industries. Conventional water treatment methods struggle to eliminate these compounds, especially short-chain PFAS, prompting urgent innovation in destruction technologies. The Global Impact Coalition is leading a collaborative effort to identify, test, and scale viable PFAS destruction solutions tailored to industrial process water systems. Read full article
Going to K Fair in Dusseldorf in October? Let's ideate together!
Calling chemical and plastics producers to join GIC for an interactive ideation session. Together, we'll identify ecosystem-level ideas to advance the chemical industry and related value chains towards a net-zero and circular future. We'll explore how we can collectively achieve breakthrough sustainable business solutions unattainable for companies working on their own.
Wednesday, 8 October, 15:00 - 16:30; K Fair at Messe Düsseldorf
