This month we continued progressing on our projects both via weekly calls and in-person sprint sessions hosted by members and partners. GIC founding member BASF hosted a working group meeting at their site in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Our project working groups are focused on scaling up essential technologies for a sustainable transition in the chemical industry, including Sustainable Olefins, Pyrolysis, and Direct Conversion. Our projects are advancing toward critical decision points ahead of our CEO Advisory Board meeting in January in Davos, with some initiatives preparing to enter the pilot phase. Among these is our Automotive Plastics Circularity project, where we’re collaborating with value chain partners to accelerate End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) plastics recycling.
October also was a month to engage in discussions with current and potential members and partners. We co-hosted an engaging discussion panel webinar with our partner EY on The Strategic Role of the Chemical Industry in Enabling a Circular Economy. We heard from leaders across the chemical industry and along the value chain on the role of collaboration, the need for off-take agreements, how to design for recyclability, the role of "green premium" frameworks, and the system-level changes needed to advance towards a circular economy.
Over the past year, we have refined a clear 4-step process to advance from ideas to projects and eventually spin-off. This process ensures we are working strategically on the most relevant and critical topics that can have the most impact.
What do you most appreciate about working with GIC?
“I appreciate seeing a shift in mindset, from independent competitors to collaborators, bringing ideas and resources together to tackle major challenges."
Why is collaboration needed for the Net Zero transformation?
“The global challenge of transforming towards Net Zero can only succeed if we work together. We need to exchange our ideas and expertise, and together find the courage to dare to do something new."
We're looking for an experienced chemical industry leader to join our vibrant senior-level community of forward-thinkers and change-makers working to advance tangible projects to bring crucial technologies to commercialization.
Talking to Energy Voice Out Loud on the Road to ADIPEC series, GIC CEO Charlie Tan sets out the importance of the chemicals industry. Securing commitments from companies, and their boards, makes it “a lot easier to justify the business case, to secure the third party investment, and to really understand the mechanisms of what you’re looking to do”, Tan said.
